Submetering

Pilot Objective

To understand and evaluate the feasibility of using the capabilities inherent in electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) to act as a submeter for utility billing purposes.

Participant Characteristics

This pilot recruited 20 residential customers who had also participated in the Electric Vehicle Charger and Installation Rebate Program. For the commercial and industrial sector three customers were obtained providing ten EVSE charger locations.

Pilot Status

Residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers have been fully decommissioned from the pilot, and the data analysis and review phase has concluded. The pilot administrator Resource Innovations has completed a first draft report, which revealed a significant variance between EVSE consumption data and actual kWh usage. To further investigate, the team will conduct an additional round of analysis using an additional data source. The final draft report is scheduled for delivery by the end of October.

Expected Outcomes

Validate the accuracy of EVSE charger equipment to act as a billing-grade energy use data source for ComEd.
