Pilot Objective

To conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to study technologies that enable the use of an electric vehicle’s bi-directional capabilities, such as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, to evaluate their readiness for adoption.

Pilot Status

The pilot is structured around three focus areas. Status updates for each focus area are provided below:

  • Environmental and Social Impact Study: The foundational planning phase is complete. Development of the preliminary cycle assessments and modeling is underway. Educational articles are to be distributed for additional information on the impacts of bidirectional charging.
  • Market Analysis and Consumer Behavior Study: Secondary research on V2X adoption trends and barriers is being completed. National Web Panel Survey programming is being prepared for dissemination. Qualitative focus group research is in progress.
  • Technical Study: The project has successfully launched, with kickoff completed and collaboration cadence in place. Hardware assessment activities are in progress.

Expected Outcomes

This pilot aims to quantify the environmental and social impacts of using V2X technology, the market readiness of implementing the technology, and the technical feasibility and cyber security measures of the technology.
